Iconic characters - 4 ( A letter to Prateek Kuhad)
Dear Prateek,
It was 2 AM when I came across one of the random Indie folk
playlists and listened to ‘Cold/Mess’. It was one of the sweetest 2AMs in my
entire life. I had never been drowned so deep in thoughts before listening to
this melody. This song has now created a history in itself by making its way to
Barack Obama’s playlist and thereby making you first and the only Indian
songwriter/singer who has made this possible. Your musical journey from a music
school in Rajasthan to NYU is really inspirational. There is not a single post
on Instagram about you that I’ve just scrolled without reading. You’re not only
the face of Indie folk music but also our saviour from the daily chaos. “
Prateek, tum thake hue din ki sukoon wali shaam ho.”
It’s been two years since I've been following you on social
media platform. I must tell you that I haven’t seen a single concert as
beautiful and serene as yours. If peace ever had the face, that would
definitely be yours. There is an ultimate satisfaction on the faces of audience
and the feedback board is always filled with the lovely praises about you and
your songs. The kind of music that you make is an escape from all the rush and
chaos in this ruthless world.
I’ve read that you played the acoustic guitar continuously
for 6 hours and had no idea when the daybreak happened. Music rushes through
your veins and settles on your fingers. Let it be a piano, acoustic guitar or
an electric guitar, you never fail to impress the audience with your perfect
chords and charming tabs. The floral printed shirts, vintage style guitar and
the melodious voice altogether add a different charm to your songs.
“ Wish I could leave you my love but my heart is a mess.”
These are the exact lines to which I always relate the most.
You’re the healer and the cure to a broken heart. Your songs have replaced all
the ‘Chicken soup for …’ books these days. You soothe the wounds with the
chords. I love your shyness and humbleness while interacting with the fans.
I’ve a serious affair with your songs dude. No matter how much famous you
become, I’ll always be your #1 fan.
I’m really curious about the girl who broke your heart but I
also thank her for bringing one of the finest songwriters in our lives. There
is a different calmness in your concerts which mends the broken feelings. The
way everyone turns on their mobile flashlights when you sing ‘ Kho gaye hum
kahaan’ is just perfect. The official video of ‘Raat Raazi’ featuring you in
boxers shows the way you indulge yourself into the music without caring much
about the appearance. Attending one of your concerts and getting your autograph
on my guitar is my dream since past two years. I’ve imagined that concert
hundred times in my head and still wish that it’d be more beautiful in real.
